Finland's modern peat industry, now in its third decade, is reported to be in a position of strength. The demand for peat fuel is increasing, with new customers expressing an interest in its use. A decision to construct a new peat-fired 150MWe power plant at Pudasjarvi is expected soon. This, together with the new second unit of the Oulu cogeneration plant will increase peat consumption in Northern Finland. The Vap Lieksa cogeneration plant is yet another peat plant under construction.
