Oct. 1--REDLANDS -- Cortez Street does not look like part of a modern city.
There is no asphalt. Nor are there any sidewalks. It's just a small dirt road in north Redlands that, aside from the late-model pickups parked along the street, seems as if it's stuck in the city's agricultural past.
Ray Rodriguez, 66, has lived on Cortez Street since 1974. When he moved in, he said, the street was surrounded by orange groves. Now, the street is a short distance from the newly opened Redlands Sports Park and the towering gray light poles that illuminate the park's soccer fields.
