Introduction
The Government of Canada has recently developed an Action Plan on Firearms Control (Department of Justice 1994a: 1994b) and has followed this up by tabling legislative proposals in this area. The purpose of my commentary is to provide a reaction to some aspects of this initiative. I will focus on two specific questions:
1. Are these proposals workable - is it realistic to suppose that they can be translated into a viable framework of programs and practices? 2. Will they be effective in helping to reduce the number of deaths and injuries in which firearms are involved, and will they contribute to a reduction of crime and improvements in personal ...
