I once read a magazine article that reported the results of a survey which asked people what supernatural power they would most like to have. Some mentioned the ability to fly, others said invisibility, and a few chose the power to move objects with thoughts. But the overwhelming majority selected the capacity to read other people's minds.
If all those being asked were parents of infants and toddlers, I think that choice would have been unanimous. How many times has a mother gazed into the eyes of her newborn and wondered what was going on inside his little head? How many times has a father seen his two-year-old do something crazy or heard her say something outlandish ...
