Sep. 30--MUNCIE, Ind. -- When the University at Buffalo began this demanding stretch to start the football season -- in which Saturday's matchup at Ball State represented the tail end -- there were several things to consider.
At the very least, UB coach Turner Gill figured he would get a better feel about his team and that its character would be tested by playing four of the first five games on the road. But more importantly, if the Bulls entertained any ambitions of competing in the Mid-American Conference's East Division, they needed to show some promise, if not wins.
