Oct. 1--On a crisp, cool autumn morning, the congregation of the Avery United Methodist Church gathered in the sanctuary of a place they have called home for more than 150 years.
The church had been host to many weddings, funerals, Christmas and Easter services through the years, but the time had come to say good-bye. From the altar, pastor Richard Work shared a prayer with a quiet crowd about to create the first memories at their new church. In a pew in the back of the church, a little blonde-haired girl with a doll bowed her head and closed her eyes.
