Stamp duty revenues soared by 40 per cent during the past tax year to reach a record pounds 6.4 billion, figures showed. The amount of tax the Government collects from the sale of residential property has risen by 140 per cent in the five years to April 2007, according to Halifax, which analysed figures from HM Revenue & Customs.
