Oct. 1--Gene and Kathy Ausland's pasture-grazing plan has not only increased the wildlife but netted them recognition.
The Andover couple was chosen as co-winners of the Society for Range Management's excellence in range management award in area one.
The couple was nominated by the Day County Conservation District office because of the improvements made to their grazing operation, said Cindy Zenk, district manager of the Day County Conservation District.
For about five years, the Auslands have added several miles of cross-fence and a pipeline watering system to create a 14-pasture rotational grazing system, Gene said.
