Oct. 1--aul Tamling doesn't need a boat. What he needs is a place to keep bluegills on ice as he pulls them, one after the other, from the picturesque body of water at Gordons Bay Landing along Hwy. 35, just over 10 miles north of Prairie du Chien. And, thankfully, the 86-year-old Tamling has a small cooler with a flip-up top to store his bevy of bluegills on this fine, fall afternoon of fishing. The cooler sits next to the overturned five-gallon bucket that serves as a seat for Tamling, who also has a box of worms and a small collection of tackle -- mostly tiny hooks, bobbers and a few small sinkers -- sitting within arm's reach in a plastic bowl.
