Top of the 13th inning in a do-or-die game. San Diego Padres 8, Colorado Rockies 6.
Tracey Vessels sat glumly, her voice screamed hoarse, her hope in tatters, her Rockies on the verge of packing off and heading into the off-season. Again.
A foot away, her 15-year-old son, Max, sat quietly chewing on the string from his sweatshirt, his head in his hands.
They'd been there 5 1/2 hours. They'd ridden the roller coaster as the Rockies fought to play another day.
It had been that way for more than two ...
