Charles Parent was appointed the 10th superintendent of the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) on Feb. 26, 2003. Chief Parent joined the NOFD in 1982 and advanced through the ranks, becoming a fire captain in 1990, district chief in 1995 and acting deputy chief in 2002. The following are excerpts from an interview conducted by Firehouse.com Editor Peter Matthews.
FIREHOUSE: It has been two years since Hurricane Katrina came to the city and caused more damage than anyone could ever expect.
