Star-spangled tribute: Y.C. woman founds Spirit of America drill team.

Oct. 2--Horses and riders crisscross through the arena, one passing behind the leader, then a third behind the second, then a fourth and a fifth follow until all eight complete the maneuver.

They circle back into a straight line -- the American flags they hold stiff in the breeze they create as they charge forward toward the viewing stand.

"We want to make an impact. We don't want anyone getting up and leaving the arena during the show," said Dawn Lee, who founded the Spirit of America precision drill team -- and the Red Dog Ranch in Yuba City where they practice -- seven years ago.
