Oct. 2--A Permian teacher filed Class A assault charges against a 16-year-old male sophomore after the student punched the teacher, a district police officer said.
Sgt. Randall Jones said that about 8:45 a.m. Friday, art teacher Cathy Creel tried to break up a fight between the sophomore and another student before a pep rally at Permian High.
The boy said "a few words" to Creel, and then punched her, Jones said.
"We have zero tolerance on any type of assault on any of our teachers or administrators," Jones said.
The 16-year-old was arrested following the incident Friday and was taken to the Ector County Youth Center, Jones said.
