Oct. 2--Going home to Indiana is always a bit a sad for me.
That's not because I don't love seeing my family or enjoy spending time on the 11-acre spread they own in the countryside. Rather, going home reminds me of how out of touch I've become with old friends.
My wedding gave me a chance to reconnect with my best friend from high school, Ryan Poe, whom I hadn't talked to in four years. MySpace helped me locate another good friend, Doyle Wood, whom I hadn't seen since his wedding in 2001.
But by and large, whenever I go home I feel friendless. I walk down the street of my hometown and no longer recognize anybody. ...
