Oct. 2--Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Wallace Stevens was reincarnated Monday -- through his own words -- at the unveiling of a historical marker in front of his Reading birthplace.

Standing on the steps of 323 N. Fifth St., the three-story row house where Stevens grew up, Kutztown University professor Heather Thomas recited a poem inspired by a childhood journal and the poet's walks on Mount Penn.

Introspective, like much of Stevens' poetry, "The Poem That Took the Place of a Mountain" yearned for a secluded place "Where he could lie and, gazing down at the sea, recognize his unique and solitary home."
