Sony hopes organic EL TVs put it back on tech offensive.

Oct. 2--Sony Corp. will debut the world's first organic electroluminescent televisions on the domestic market Dec. 1, hoping to take the lead in development of the next-generation flat-panel TVs, the electronics giant said Monday.

The 11-inch model, only 3 mm thick and weighing 2 kg, will hit the market with a proposed retail price of A[yen]200,000.

For Sony, which was hit hard by a massive recall of its defective lithium-ion batteries last year and falling sales in its struggling game divisions, becoming the world's first mass-producer of organic EL TVs was a long-cherished goal.
