Oct. 2--SAN BERNARDINO -- County officials are planning to beef up aerial surveillance of dirty swimming pools and take other measures to fight mosquitoes carrying deadly West Nile Virus.
A bird in the Barstow area was recently found to be positive of the West Nile Virus and eight human cases have been found countywide so far this year, said Dan Avera, chief of environmental health for the San Bernardino County Department of Health.
Only three human cases were found in 2006.
"In the High Desert area, there are certain areas that have problems with mosquitos such as Mojave Narrows" Avera said.
