Crackdown on S.J. prostitution turns to the Web.

Oct. 2--STOCKTON -- Click, click, hook -- the oldest profession has adapted to the digital age.

Working girls once strutted city streets to ply their trade. But a large number of prostitutes have forded the digital divide and are offering their services discreetly over the Web.

Visit a Web site such as Craigslist.org, which was designed as a forum for classified ads and announcements, and one finds thousands of listings for escorts and erotic services, most accompanied by nude or scantily clad pictures of "providers" offering to please "hobbyists," as sex workers and their clients are known online.

And police are logged on.
