GOP lawmakers want investigative arm taken away from Pennsylvania gaming board.

Oct. 2--HARRISBURG, Penn. -- House Republicans and a retired state police official are at odds with the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board over whether stricter procedures are needed for conducting detailed background checks of prospective casino applicants, their employees and vendors.

Citing a concern over a slots license the gaming board gave Poconos businessman Louis DeNaples, GOP Reps. Doug Reichley of Lehigh and Mike Vereb of Montgomery want to take the gaming board's investigative arm, the Bureau of Investigations and Enforcement, out from under the board's control.
