In tiny Versailles, Penn., big concern about toxic gas report.

Oct. 2--Angry Versailles residents vented their frustrations with state environmental officials last night regarding hydrogen sulfide and methane gas that had been detected in the borough.

State Department of Environmental Protection officials told the residents that they were certain that the gases were not at harmful levels and that emissions were checked yesterday.

"As far as we know, there is not and there never has been a hydrogen sulfide problem in Versailles," said Alan Eichler, the DEP's regional program manager for gas and oil.

But the reassurances did little to calm about 30 residents who attended a meeting at the borough ...
