Inflation up 2.1% in September on oil prices.

Oct. 2--Inflation rose 2.1 percent year-on-year in September thanks to higher food and fuel prices. The consumer price index (CPI) was up sharply from 1.1 percent in August, which was near a five-year low.

Siripol Yodmuangcharoen, the newly appointed permanent secretary of the Commerce Ministry, said inflation in September rose largely due to higher food and beverage prices, with rice, flour and cereal products, ducks and chickens, and vegetables and fruits up 3.8 percent over the same month last year.

The non-food sector increased 1.1 percent, mainly due to oil prices that rose 6.9 percent.
