Cheap laughs poor fuel for commuter comedy.

Oct. 2--It's hard to understand how Bruce McCulloch, a funnyman from Kids in the Hall, could create a series as pedestrian as Carpoolers.

There are moments when the single-camera, laugh-track-free series is funny, but it lacks the ingenuity of the Canadian sketch show Kids or the engine necessary to make it a draw.

Carpoolers seems destined to become the latest uninspired ABC comedy to live a short life (after In Case of Emergency and Big Day last season). (Cavemen, the comedy based on the Geico insurance commercials, will also premiere tonight, but review copies weren't made available to critics.)
