Man sentenced for burning toddler.

Oct. 2--WATERLOO -- A Waterloo man has been sentenced to 35 years in prison for burning his ex-girlfriend's toddler son with a cigar and trying to frame her new boyfriend on drug charges.

Chad Reese Bennett, 36, had been scheduled to go to trial on a series of crimes stemming from the stalking of his ex-girlfriend last week.

He was facing up to 89 years in prison if convicted but changed his plea to guilty as part of an agreement with prosecutors.

Bennett, a former adjunct instructor at Hawkeye Community College and graduate student at the University of Northern Iowa, didn't make any statements during his plea and sentencing hearing.
