Oct. 2--CEDAR FALLS -- At a campaign stop at the University of Northern Iowa, Republican presidential hopeful Fred Thompson spoke broadly about the principles he would espouse as president.
Thompson unapologetically avoided specifics on the issues voters say they care about most -- Iraq and health care -- and didn't take questions from the audience. Invoking Ronald Reagan, he argued the most important thing for a president is to stand by his "common-sense conservative" values, which include small government, fiscal conservatism, a free-market economy and strong national defense.
