Oct. 1--Indian River County is taking one more stab at keeping Piper Aircraft Inc. in town.
County commissioners will meet Tuesday in Vero Beach to weigh a new package of incentives for the plane maker -- but the offer may not have a heftier price tag than the $76.5 million deal Piper rejected this summer.
Still, "it has more benefit to them," Vero Beach Mayor Thomas White said.
The perks could include a state contribution for property insurance, which runs Piper a staggering $4.4 million a year. And Vero Beach is looking at giving Piper a bulk rate for energy costs at its 89-acre plant at Vero Beach Municipal Airport.
