BIRMINGHAM'S only surviving castle is to be turned into the city's newest tourist attraction.
A pounds 1million education and visitor centre is to be built at Weoley Castle Ruins.
The Heritage Lottery Fund is putting pounds 560,000 towards the project, with the city council giving a further pounds 500,000.
A bid for pounds 180,000 has also been submitted to English Heritage with a decision yet to be given on that.
Coun Peter Douglas Osborn (Con, Weoley) said he was delighted with the Heritage Lottery Fund donation.
