Oct. 1--Georgia Power CEO Mike Garrett kicked off a series of state Public Service Commission hearings on the company's $406 million rate increase request Monday, saying regional growth, investment in pollution controls and the need for a continued strong credit rating make the extra money necessary.
He said the company needs to stay ahead of an estimated 47 percent increase in customers and demand over the next two decades, by building the infrastructure those customers will need.
The company's investment in reliability has already paid off, he said, especially this summer: "We provided excellent reliability in one of the worst heat waves ...
