Oct. 2--IOWA CITY -- A city council committee voted Monday against a surgical center's request for a $600,000 tax break, but project leaders said they may make another attempt for the money.
The city's Economic Development Committee voted 21 against forwarding to the full seven-member council the application from the Iowa City Ambulatory Surgical Center for tax increment financing, or TIF. Committee/council members Regenia Bailey and Connie Champion voted against the proposal. Bob Elliott voted for it.
