Oct. 2--The government started a new fiscal year Monday without pulling funding for a controversial Department of Transportation cross-border trucking pilot program.
Because 2008 transportation spending legislation hasn't been finalized yet, trucks from three Mexican companies will maintain authority to make deliveries anywhere in the United States. Two U.S. companies also will get to keep making deliveries anywhere in Mexico.
In an amendment to a 2008 Transportation Appropriations bill, U.S. senators last month confirmed an earlier House vote to pull funding for the program. The pilot program is a test of North American Free Trade ...
