Alcoa, Maryville issue mandatory water rules.

Oct. 3--ALCOA -- The last few weeks in Blount have brought new meaning to the term "dry county," and some small businesses are feeling the heat of mandatory water restrictions more than others.

Voluntary restrictions have been in place for about a month, but both Maryville and Alcoa on Tuesday clamped mandatory water conservation measures on residents and businesses inside their city limits, as well as some who live outside but still get their water from city utilities.

Watering lawns is banned, as is washing vehicles, including recreational vehicles. Also, swimming pools and hot tubs cannot be filled or refilled because of the water shortage. ...
