Oct. 3--Bank Rhode Island is expanding its footprint in the state by opening a new branch in Pawtucket, linking two of its prime markets and including a "business center" for customers.
The opening is the first since 2005, when the bank opened new branches in Lincoln and East Greenwich, and the first expansion since management beat back an effort by dissident shareholders who wanted the Providence-based institution to put itself up for sale.
Stockholders at the May 16 annual meeting supported all five management nominees to the board of directors, defeating the candidates of dissident shareholder PL Capital LLC, which argued that the bank had underperformed its peers.
