MELBOURNE, Australia, Oct. 4, 2007 (IPS/GIN) -- Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare of the Solomon Islands is pooh-poohing the results of a survey that showed widespread support among islanders for a Australian-led assistance mission that has been in their country since 2003.
Sogavare said the timing of the survey regarding the Australian-led Regional Assistance Mission to the Solomon Islands (RAMSI) highlights the true agenda behind the deployment of the mission -- Australia's desire to maintain a presence on the islands in order to defend itself from terrorist threats.
