We see balding men all the time. We see authoritative men with graying hair, announcing the evening news; we see attractive young men with balding crowns competing in high-pressure sports. We almost never see balding women, and it would be easy to believe that women don't have this problem. In fact, one out of four women in the United States is coping with hair loss, and the American Academy of Dermatology estimates a third of them are under forty. We rarely see a woman who's bald, but that's because women do everything possible to hide their baldness.
