Oct. 6--TOYOTA'S FUKUTA FACES CHALLENGE OF SECOND LINE: Being president of Toyota Motor Manufacturing Texas Inc. automatically makes anyone a business star in San Antonio.

Kenji "Ken" Fukuta officially emerged in that role Friday at the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce's annual, but last, State of Toyota luncheon. Fukuta started in May, replacing the more outgoing Hidehiko "T.J." Tajima, who from 2003 had guided plant construction and worker training.

It takes one talent to build and to open a plant in a new part of the country and another to operate it at ever-improving efficiency. The second is Fukuta's challenge, not entertaining ...
