Pine Bluff is fishing for major sporting and convention events to bring to the southeast Arkansas area, and quite a few lunkers have been landed lately. The city's efforts are having a trickle-down effect on the overall area economy.
The Operation Bass Inc. Red Man All-American Bass Fishing Championship chose Pine Bluff for its site in June '96 and in '97. The winner among the world's 50 best fishermen takes home $100,000 of a total purse of $250,000.
Plus, it is estimated the city's economy will benefit to the tune of $1.4 million. The Pine Bluff Convention Center will serve as headquarters. with registration, weigh-ins and banquets held at the facility.
