West Penn hospital system faces challenge of integration.

Oct. 7--More than 150 physicians from Bloomfield's West Penn Hospital gathered at the Churchill Valley County Club on Wednesday night to hear more about the state of the region's second-largest hospital system.

It had been almost three months since the abrupt departure of West Penn Allegheny Health System Chief Executive Officer Jerry Fedele, and there still were concerns in Bloomfield that the long-promised, full-fledged clinical consolidation of the 13,000-person system might tilt greater control to a second flagship on the North Side, Allegheny General Hospital.
