Growing up in Starkville, I knew the story about Johnny Cash and his incarceration in the local jail, but I can't recall when I first heard his song about the experience, "Starkville City Jail."
I like his music, but I'd never call myself a huge Johnny Cash fan, and I haven't given the story, the song or the connection between my hometown and the legendary musician much thought.
But lately, there's been a buzz building about the incident and a push to pardon Cash. The man behind it all is Robbie Ward. In addition to the pardon campaign, he's organized the Johnny Cash Flower Pickin' Festival November 2-4.
