Oct. 5--Utah's driving season is winding down, but the state's gasoline prices have taken an unexpected turn upward, with the average cost of unleaded regular rising 3 cents a gallon since early September.

In most years, the arrival of cooler fall temperatures signal that it is time for gasoline prices to start heading down toward their midwinter lows as Utahns spend less time behind the steering wheels of their automobiles.
