Preservice teachers and teacher education faculty members believe the student teaching internship is a crucial part of teacher preparation. In fact, this experience may be the most important aspect of the preparation process (Locke, 1979). Yet, little evidence indicates that the student teaching internship has consistently achieved what might be considered as its major goals: improvement in teacher efficacy, and reduction in teacher stress (Paese & Zinkgraf, 1991).
