The recent resignation of Terry Ryan as general manager of the Twins brought to mind how important it is to have a GM and his manager or coach have a great relationship when trying to build a winning team.
Under GM Andy MacPhail and manager Tom Kelly, the Twins achieved their greatest success, winning two World Series. Ryan and Ron Gardenhire then went on to win four American League Central championships in five years.
The Vikings had their greatest success when Bud Grant was coach and Jim Finks was GM; together, they were able to take a relatively young franchise and turn it into one of the NFL's powers. While ...
