Oct. 6--New Bedford's mayor said yesterday that he supported casino gambling in Massachusetts and wanted the state to move more quickly on gambling licenses.
"One of the dangers of dragging things out is 'casino paralysis,'" said Scott W. Lang, the New Bedford mayor.
Property owners and businesses will shelve development plans to await a potential boom from a casino, stalling economic growth, said Lang, a Democrat.
"I'd like to see a quicker pace," he said.
For now, the pace of the casino debate is being dictated by Massachusetts Governor Patrick, who last month proposed allowing three full-scale casinos to open in the state. Any ...
