Oct. 8--HARTFORD -- Gov. M. Jodi Rell said today the state Department of Transportation inspected 561 bridges in two months, including 10 similar in design to one that collapsed Aug. 1 in Minnesota.
Detailed results of the Connecticut inspections were not immediately available.
In a press release, Rell said the state's 10 deck-truss bridges -- similar in design to the Minnesota span that collapsed into the Mississippi River and killed 13 -- have no major problems.
The blitz of inspections was instituted to bring all Connecticut's bridges rated as satisfactory into a two-year inspection cycle. The 561 bridges were inspected every four years ...
