The ball bounced high toward Esty Geiger and, with her back to the goal, she had no other choice: She had to attempt an acrobatic bicycle kick.
"It was just instincts," said Geiger, a North Eugene senior midfielder. "The ball popped up and I knew I had to kick it backward."
The result was every soccer player's dream.
Geiger's backward flip shot was drilled into the top right corner of the goal, giving North Eugene early momentum en route to a 2-0 victory at Churchill in a Midwestern League girls soccer game Monday night.
