You can fly-fish with a willow switch and braided horsehair, but where's the fun in that? A modern fly-fisher needs toys, collectibles and proof that technology is keeping up.
At least, that was the earnest hope of hundreds of manufacturers and fly-tackle dealers who assembled at the Colorado Convention Center last month for their annual Fly Fishing Retailer Show.
The trade show introduced the latest in fly-fishing equipment, apparel and accessories for 2008. There were lighter rods, slicker lines, brighter baubles and more fashionable fishing togs.
