The Clark Art Institute in Williamstown, Mass., has entered into a long-term lease agreement with MASS MoCA in nearby North Adams. For an undisclosed amount reported to be in the seven figures, the Clark will lease 29,000 square feet of exhibition and storage space in three buildings on MASS MoCA's campus for 20 years. Following renovations, the Clark branch at MASS MoCA is expected to open in 2011.
The Clark, with strengths in 19th-century European and American painting, gains increased visibility and a site to venture into contemporary exhibitions, though no decisions have been made about programming. MASS MoCA, of course, reaps the benefit of a bolstered ...
