Academy, stadium actions OK'd.

Oct. 9--DURHAM -- The Board of County Commissioners on Monday night approved a temporary home for the public school system's City of Medicine Academy and a $4.2 million deal to improve Durham County Memorial Stadium.

Under the county stadium plan, the commissioners agreed to work with Shaw University over the next decade to upgrade the facility that was once considered for demolition.

As part of the plan, Raleigh-based Shaw -- which plays its home football games at the stadium and will hold its track and field meets there in the future -- will contribute $2.4 million.
