Oct. 9--PEPPERELL -- There's an adage that water and oil don't mix, but Timothy Lorden Sr., who was fond of such insightful cliches, knew that wasn't true.
The Lorden family started cutting ice from the Townsend Harbor and Heald Pond in Pepperell for delivery to area homes when Lorden was a boy.
