Oct. 10--BP has notified state officials of another fire, the fifth in North Slope oil fields in two months.
Like two of the previous fires, the latest fire involved a powerful turbine engine inside a huge oil processing plant in the Prudhoe Bay oil field.
The fire, which broke out about 7 p.m. Saturday, was small and workers inside the plant, called Gathering Center 2, quickly put it out, BP spokesman Daren Beaudo said Tuesday.
The fire seems to have started after lubrication oil leaked from a turbine bearing assembly into an exhaust duct, he said.
