Oct. 10--When Joe Torre called, Eric Wedge dropped everything. The Cleveland Indians manager decided the celebration could wait.
Torre, the 67-year-old Yankees manager, could have been worried about his own future Monday night after Cleveland ousted New York in the American League Division Series. Owner George Steinbrenner said before Game 3 that Torre would be fired if New York was eliminated in the first round of the playoffs for the third consecutive year.
After the decisive 6-4 loss, Torre was extremely complimentary of the Indians and called Wedge's office to offer congratulations.
