Stark girl 1st in '07 exposed to virus.

Oct. 10--The Akron-Canton area has its first human case of West Nile virus in 2007.

While an 11-year-old Canton girl was being treated in a Summit County hospital recently for aseptic meningitis, test results showed she had been exposed to the West Nile virus, Canton Health Commissioner Dr. Robert Pattison said.

Aseptic meningitis, which usually isn't life-threatening, can be caused by the West Nile virus, according to the National Institutes of Health.

The girl has been released from the hospital, Pattison said.
